Since our flight doesn't leave until later today we can sleep in. Good thing because we didn't finish our packing last night so here we are this morning running around to get it all done. No time for the nice leisurely breakfast I wanted. We can stop on the way before heading over to the airport. Best laid plans, right!
Finally I think we're good to go. Using our handy weight scale our checked bags are both under the 50# limit. We will have our carry on, my tote that contains my laptop and travel documents folder, and my anti theft bag that has our passports and other important documents for this trip. I check the time. Yikes. It's after 10:00 am. Now we have no time to stop for breakfast. I am so upset. Richard does his check list. Set up automatic timer for light to go on in the living room. Hot water heater. Ice maker on fridge, etc. Doors locked. Keys with us. Load up the car and off we go.
We get to the Buffalo Airport Hotel at 11:00 am. Show the parking paperwork at the hotel reception desk. The shuttle driver has us follow his shuttle to where we will park our car 8/28-9/27. It is a gated lot a short way from the hotel.

Transfer luggage to the shuttle and we're off to the airport. We get dropped off American Airlines. At the airport to check in by 11:15 am. Our flight is AA5923 departing Buffalo at 1:05 pm and arriving Philadelphia at 2:27 pm. Our flight is on time. Uneventful. Nice weather. Snack of orange juice and mini pretzels. See a bit of the Philly skyline.

Of course since we are heading overseas we need to take the shuttle to our gate. Ugh. We have a 5 hour layover so plenty of time to find a place for breakfast, right? Wrong! Only place that I found for sit down service is Jack Duggan's. And they stop serving breakfast at 10:30 am!! They had french toast on the menu. 😞 If plans had gone better we would have stopped at Denny's for breakfast before arriving at the Buffalo/Niagara Airport and I would have had my french toast! Well, we're in Philly. There's Philly cheese steak sandwich on the menu. No brainer. I know I won't be able to handle it all so I'll share this with Richard even though he says he's not hungry. I tell the waitress to make it classic when she asks what kind of cheese I want. Comes with fries. Drinks-sierra mist and pepsi. Cost without tip $29.15. Verdict on the Philly cheese steak. So so. Steak was tender. Roll was great. But could barely taste the cheese. Too much chopped onion for me. Not as much of a wow moment as I thought having an Philly cheese steak in Philly would be!!

We arrive at our departure gate around 4:00 pm. Our AA714 flight is 7:20 pm so have time to kill. I check some mail on my computer but it seems like the airport wifi is not all that great. I spot a Dunkin Donuts so I pop over to buy a glazed donut for breakfast for tomorrow before we arrive in Venice.

Boarding goes smoothly. I chose duo seats so we'd have more room but it doesn't feel that way. However it's just the 2 of us in the row so no worrying about someone in a middle seat. Richard takes the aisle so he can stretch his legs and I'm stuck with the window which is fine with me. The flight is full. All of us heading to Venice. Each seat has its own entertainment system for movies, TV shows, and more. There's an outlet to charge up my phone. We each get a sealed package containing a blanket and pillow. Flight attendants hand out ear pieces for the entertainment system. I will watch some movies-The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Avatar-The Way of Water.

Snack-mini pretzels and water. Around 9:00 pm we are served dinner. Pasta or chicken. Richard goes for the pasta but I decide on the chicken/orzo as I'm sure I'll be having lots of pasta in Italy. Both dinners come with salad, roll & butter, cheese & crackers, dessert. Choice of drinks. I get red and white wine! I'm not driving anywhere! Food was ok. Nothing great but it's airplane food.

We're asked to pull the shade cover over the window to allow others a chance to sleep. I've never been able to sleep on a plane so I do enjoy the movies.
