9/5/2023 FLORENCE: Palazzo Castri, Uffizi, pool break, Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens, Piazza Michelangelo, dinner Trattoria Boboli

Up early as we have a timed entry of 9:15 am for Uffizi.  But first breakfast.  Buffet style.  Very similar to what we had in Venice.  Juices, cereals, breads, meats, cheeses, fruit, pastries, sweet breads, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, and so much more.  I have my usual of fruit, a slice of banana bread, a chocolate frosted mini donut, juice, and green tea.  Richard had cheese, ham, a couple slices quiche, fruit, and coffee.

Time for a pool break.  We will do more sightseeing a bit later this afternoon but now we want to relax.  Our feet are aching and it's hot here in Florence as it was in Venice.

Pool time over.  We shower and get ready for more sightseeing.  Taxi to Pitti Palace.  Cost 12.30€.  Several museums here.  I'm mainly interested in the Galleria Palatine which has paintings of 15-17th century; Titian and Raphael.  We also see furnishings, Medici household treasures.  We spend 1 hour here.

Boboli Gardens.  Wasn't going to do this but we're here so will explore a bit.  Lots of steep uphill walking so we do cut the visit short.  I'm sure if we had continued we would have been more impressed but we are both hot and tired with sore legs/feet.  My legs are swelling badly.

I was going to take public transportation to Piazzale Michelangelo but instead we get a taxi to take us there, wait for us for a bit, and then drop us off for dinner.  Lots of people here.  Music playing.  There's the statue of David.  Stands selling souvenirs, drinks, etc.  Nice views.  Cost of taxi 27€/$29.19.  A bit pricey but worth it to us.

Our taxi great was such a nice guy

Trattoria Boboli.  Our dinner reservation is for 8:00 pm.  Bread basket.  Richard does a good job of mixing the olive oil and vinegar for the bread.  Drinks-beer and wine.  Side salad to share.  Spinach to share.  We both order pasta-pici alla sensi.  This is homemade pasta with a pomodoro/tomato sauce and a dollop of burrata cheese.  For whatever reason I took pictures of the menu printed in Italian!  I think I remember an English menu but why didn't I take pictures of that menu??  Cost 39.50€/$42.70  I get a discount due to making reservation on The Fork.  Taxi back to our hotel.

I'm happy with what we've done today.  I don't regret using the taxis as it makes for a more enjoyable experience for us.  If we were younger and in better health we'd probably be walking or taking public transportation.  I'm just glad we can do the taxis and save the wear and tear on our legs.  Tomorrow is another big day with the Duomo complex on our agenda.
