We head back to our hotel as we are going to watch the regatta from our room. I stop and get some hazelnut gelato. At another store Richard picks up a beer and I get a coke.

On our way back to our hotel before the regatta starts

Historic Regatta. Takes place first Sunday in September. Commemorates the history of Venice. Lots of 16th century style boats with gondoliers in period costume. Carry the Doge, the Doge's wife and all the high ranking Venetian officials up the Grand Canal. There was a viewing platform set up near where the regatta starts.
Most likely for judges and VIPs. I think it starts near Punta della Salute and goes to the Santa Lucia train station and then turns around to go back. Since our room looks right on to the Grand Canal we have prime viewing of the regatta. We even have red flags that have been attached to both our windows. It starts at 4:00 pm and is over around 5:30 pm. It was so colorful and there were so many floats/gondolas. All ages-adults and kids. It was great entertainment. Glad we were able to see this.

T Fondaco Dei Tedeschi. We have a reservation for 5:45 pm. This is a mall of sorts with lots of stores. But we're here to go to the roof top terrace. We use the elevator to get to the 4th floor. We check in with a girl and get in line. We will wait until the 5:30 pm group vacates the terrace. We will have 15 minutes to take in the views. Lovely.

Ristorante Rialto. Because the Grand Canal was closed due to the Regatta we canceled our dinner reservation for Osteria Oliva Nero. Instead we just decide to have dinner at the restaurant by our hotel. This restaurant is not part of our hotel and to be honest our meal here was not the best. Drinks-beer and house wine. Richard gets the grilled chicken breast. It comes with fries. Richard says it's ok but chicken is not as tender and juicy due to probably being overcooked. Fries don't taste fresh either. I order the lasagna and it's the same problem. Way overcooked. The pasta is almost mushy. If the pasta had been al dente it would have been so much better. Now I'm regretting canceling our other dinner reservation because that place got great reviews. Cost 71€/$77.28. A bit pricey for the meal we had.
