Rise and shine! Going home today. Bags packed. Checked bags are under the weight limit! Going home we have 2 carry ons instead of the one we arrived with as I did do a bit of shopping! Check out is a breeze. The room has been paid for so we just have to settle the drinks we had last night and the drinks we had by the pool. Extra cost 22.54€/$24.03 and 24€/$25.62. Reception arranges for a taxi to the airport. Set price 50€. I have set aside the cash. Going back and forth about breakfast. Should we return to "our place" next to the hotel one last time or should we get breakfast at the airport. It's Rome. The airport should be huge. There should be lots of restaurants. Right? So we opt to get breakfast at the airport. Taxi picks us up 8:36 am.
Taxi to the airport. Our driver drives really, really fast. There's traffic but not too bad. Richard and I don't say anything but we give each other a look. We arrive at the airport 9:18 am. I see a sign that says get to Rome from the airport in 32 minutes. Wow! It takes us 42 minutes. Maybe we only thought he was driving fast? He drops us off at Terminal 3. I pay him and give him a tip. I know that on the Trip Advisor forum it has been said repeatedly that in Italy you don't tip. Well for the most part I did follow that advice with a few exceptions.

Leonardo da Vinci/Fiumicino Airport. We are dropped off Terminal 3 which has the international flights. Check in our bags-2-and have to pay 71€/$75.71 for each bag. American Airlines charges $75 per checked bag. Global Blue. I bought some expensive jewelry in Florence and the store filled out forms. I need to present these forms to Global Blue in order to get a refund. On a later credit card statement there's a credit of $130.60 from Global Blue. There were lots of people doing this so it took a while.

BeerCode. Breakfast. So were in Terminal 3 which is supposed to be the biggest terminal but I'm having a hard time finding a sit down restaurant where I can get breakfast. This place is very busy and there's a line to get a table. We get in line and seem to wait forever. It looks like there's only a few people actually working. We finally get seated at a table. Then it takes forever for someone to take our order. Coffee is easy. But when I try to oder breakfast I'm told that they're out of everything. It's only 10:15 am! I ask for a plain bagel because there's bagel sandwiches on the menu. Told all those are premade so I can't get a plain bagel! WTF! Richard gets the curry chicken bagel-sesame bagel, curry chicken, Buffalo mozzarella, dried tomato, salad/lettuce, and sesame cream. He says he was ok. I'm able to get a side dish of pineapple so I'm ok too. But gosh. This is Rome's airport. There should be lots of places to get a nice sit down meal and at 10:15 am you should be able to get breakfast! I'm very disappointed. Our airport back home has better restaurant choices. If I had known we would have gone to that little place by our Rome hotel for breakfast!

I have some time before boarding so I look around to see if I can get a coffee mug that says ITALY on it. No luck. I guess I should have just bought a ROME one when I saw them. I do spot the Venchi store and I buy some candy! Cost 14.90€/$15.89.
Flight. American Airlines. Our flight is AA721 departing Rome 12:50 pm. Arrives Charlotte 5:15 pm. We will get lunch on the plane. We have to take a shuttle. We have duo seats on this flight. Just the 2 of us in the row. Take off on time and smooth. Plenty of movies and other entertainment on personal screen. I watch Book Club-The Next Chapter, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Transformers Rise of the Beasts. I can't sleep on a plane. Lunch is served around 1 1/2 hours after take off. Can't remember the choices. I think one was pasta and one was chicken. I got the chicken that came with orzo and vegetables. There's so much food! Bottle of water. Salad. Cheese and crackers. Roll and butter. Dessert-cake. Later we get strawberry gelato. Then a tomato and pesto wrap. All the food was ok but I did not like the tomato and pesto wrap. While in the air the pilot did come on over the speaker to say we were passing the Matterhorn visible on our side of the plane. I took pictures but have no clue if it's of the Matterhorn or not. We arrive in Charlotte on time.

Arriving Charlotte |
Charlotte. We have to claim our bags, go through Customs. No issues. Check our bags back in. Originally we were supposed to depart Charlotte for Buffalo at 10:25 pm but our flight got changed to departure time of 8:50 pm. Shorter connection so no time for any sit down food and/or drinks. Besides we're not really hungry. We head over to our gate area. Flight is uneventful. Drink and snack. Arrive Buffalo

Buffalo-home! Our bags made it so we're good to go. Call for shuttle to take us to where our car has been parked. The shuttle driver tells us he's made a fresh pot of coffee but we're tired and just want to get home. Get home, leave luggage downstairs, and collapse into bed!
