Up early. Looking out the window there's no one on the Rialto Bridge! Life on the canal. Breakfast at our hotel. I have fruit, a plain croissant, and cappuccino. Vaporetto to Burano and Torcello today.
We take the #2 vaporetto at around 10:00 am to San Zaccaria. From there we take the LN line to Burano. We arrive in Burano at 11:24 am.

Torcello. Then we take the #12 line to Torcello arriving at 11:40 am. It is very hot and the walk to where the sights are is long with no shade areas. Not fun. First is the Ponte del Diavolo. I sit on the bridge for a picture. Walk a bit more until we come to Locanda Cipriani. It's a Hemingway hangout and I was thinking about stopping here for drinks but it looks closed. Walking on we get to Chiesa di Santa Fosca. This small church is quaint. But we're really interested more in the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta. This is the oldest church in Venice. Admission 10€ for both of us. Close by is Trono di Attila. I sit and Richard takes my picture. This has nothing to do with Attila. We opt to not climb the tower as our legs are hurting and it's just so very hot! We decide to walk back and return to Burano where I have made a lunch reservation for us. We get back just as the vaporetto is getting ready to leave. It hasn't left the dock. The lady will not let us on. So we will have to wait for the next one and most likely will not make our lunch reservation. I'm really pissed. It's around 1:15 pm when the #12 vaporetto arrives to take us to Burano.

We get back to Burano at 1:30 pm. We'll explore a bit but first we're thirsty and I'm hungry. There's a place right where the boat docked that sell food and drinks. I see that they are selling cicchetti. Now I'm feeling better as these Venetian type snacks (similar to Spain's tapas) are something I've been wanting to try. Drinks-beer and coke. I get 2 mozzarella, 2 ham & olive, and a skewer of 5 shrimp. Cost 22.50€. Richard does have some of the snacks. They're very good so I'm not too upset anymore about missing our lunch reservation.

Richard's knee is really bothering him so he decides to just sit on a bench here while I explore Burano a bit. Very colorful houses. Shops selling lace and cookies. I buy a framed lace picture of the Rialto Bridge for 16€. I buy some cookies typical of Burano. Getting back to where Richard is we decide not to try to return to Murano. We're tired and it's just too hot. We decide to return to our hotel. We leave Burano around 3:30 pm. We get back around 6:00 pm! We ended up taking the extremely long way back!

What a day we've had so far! It is so easy to get confused about the right vaporetto to take. But now it's time for dinner. We have reservation for 9:00 pm at Ristorante La Caravella. This place is located in the Hotel Saturnia. The hotel was one of the places we were thinking about staying until we decided on the Hotel Rialto. We take the vaporetto getting off and then walking. Pass lots of high end stores like Prada, etc. We are seated in an open air garden type setting. Very cute. Drinks-Birra Venezia, spritz. Bread basket had nice variety. Richard orders fish soup, Caravella style. I go for the homemade ravioli stuffed with veal and veggies in a parmesan cream. The presentation was beautiful for my ravioli and it was as good as it looked. Everything was perfect. Dessert-something I've never had but sounds so good. Mille-feuille with lemon cream and strawberries. Richard likes the sound of semifreddo with heart of chocolate, rum, and honey from the island of Sant 'Erasmo. OMG. Don't want to know how many calories are in these desserts. We taste each other's and agree dessert is the perfect finishing touch to our dinner. Complimentary chocolate cookies. Cost 120€/$130.61.
